Sarah Penner is an American author. Her debut novel, The Lost Apothecary (2021), became a New York Times bestseller. Fox Broadcasting Company is developing a television adaptation of the story.
Sarah Penner was born and raised in northeast Kansas, growing up in a small log cabin nestled deep in the woods. As the author says, this picturesque retreat, where she lived until early adulthood, frames most of her early memories.
She graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in finance. Penner began writing seriously in 2015 after attending a moving lecture given by Elizabeth Gilbert. Soon after her talk, she enrolled in her first online creative writing class.
In early 2021, after thirteen years in corporate America, she left her day job and became a full-time writer.
Her debut fiction, The Lost Apothecary, became an instant New York Times bestseller, debuting at #7 on the hardcover fiction list. It also was on the USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists for three months. The Lost Apothecary will be translated into 40 languages worldwide.
Her second novel, The London Séance Society (2023), is a charming tale that explores the blurred lines between truth and illusion and reveals the grave risks women will take to avenge the ones they love.
Sarah Penner currently lives in Florida with her husband, Marc.
